Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2025 XTZ690 motorcycles. The turn signal lights may fail to operate when activated. As such, these motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Risk / consequence
Turn signals that do not function properly may fail to indicate the rider's intention to change direction, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Owners are advised not to ride their motorycle until the remedy is complete. Yamaha will replace the meter assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 26, 2026. Owners may contact Yamaha's customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990190. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning June 26, 2026.
Chronology of events
- May 2026
In May 2026, (revised June 5,), Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. (Yamaha) was informed by the manufacturer, Yamaha Motor Co., LTD, that a defect exists certain 2025 Yamaha XTZ690 motorcycles (units). The manufacturer noted that in affected units, the turn signal lamp(s) may fail to operate properly. Prior to May 2026, the manufacturer initiated an engineering investigation to determine the cause of failure. The results of the investigation were analyzed by the manufacturer. Around May 2026 the manufacturer concluded that design of the turn signal circuitry within the Meter Assembly is inadequate, which may result in the controlling system that detects circuit breakage from functioning properly. If this occurs, the control system may incorrectly determine that the circuit has been broken, which may cause the turn signal lamp(s) to fail to operate as designed.

In May of 2026, (revised June 5),Yamaha decided to conduct a voluntary non-compliance recall. All unsold, potentially affected units were placed on a sales hold and prohibited from delivery to consumers. Yamaha has not received any reports, nor is Yamaha otherwise aware, of any accidents or injuries related to this issue
