Defect

International Motors, LLC (International) is recalling certain 2027 IC Bus CESB school buses. The retractors may not lock, preventing the wheelchair from being properly secured.

Risk / consequence

An unsecured wheelchair can move during transit, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and replace the retractors, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 3, 2026. Owners may contact International's customer service at 1-800-448-7825. International's number for this recall is 26508.

Chronology of events

1. May 14, 2026

   05/14/2026: IC Bus receives 26E022 recall communication from Q’Straint.

2. May 15, 2026

   05/15/2026: IC Bus meets to review the recall communication provided by Q’Straint and implements a Delivery Stop at Tulsa Bus Assembly Plant on 34 buses. IC Bus finds[JB1] 9 sets of suspect retractors.

3. May 18, 2026

   05/18/2026: Tulsa Bus Assembly plant inspects 52 retractor sets in inventory and finds 23 suspect retractor sets.

4. May 19, 2026

   05/19/2026: IC Bus implements a quality hold at Parts Distribution Centers. No suspect retractor sets are found.

5. May 22, 2026

   05/22/2026: IC Bus and Q’Straint meet to finalize the shipment dates of the suspect parts to Tulsa Bus Plant.

6. May 27, 2026

   05/27/2026: IC Bus meets to review the shipments of retractor sets and finalizes suspect build population.

7. May 28, 2026

   05/28/2026: IC Bus declares a Safety Recall.
