Defect

ARBOC Specialty Vehicles, LLC (ARBOC) is recalling certain 2025 Spirit of Equess, 2026 Spirit of Freedom, Spirit of Independence, and Spirit of Mobility transit buses. The retractors may not lock, preventing the wheelchair from being properly secured.

Risk / consequence

An unsecured wheelchair can move during transit, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and replace the retractors as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 24, 2026. Owners may contact ARBOC customer service at 1-866-953-5555.

Chronology of events

1. 14-May-2026: ARBOC was formally advised by Q’Straint – supplier of the suspect restraints – that an equipment recall had been issued (26E022) due to some restraints distributed to ARBOC may not fully lock. 14-May-2026: ARBOC discussed the issue with Q’Straint telephonically to get clarity on the check/test method. 15-May-2026: ARBOC begins to confirm what buses may be affected by the suspect restraints. 22-May-2026: ARBOC holds a Special Safety Committee meeting; concurrence was provided to issue this recall.
