Defect

Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. (Tiffin) is recalling certain 2026-2027 Open Trail, Wayfarer, and 2026 Midas recreational vehicles. The Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC) label may have been incorrectly printed on a white label. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 120, "Wheels and Rims-Other Than Passenger Cars."

Risk / consequence

The incorrect label color may make it difficult for the operator to locate the loading or tire pressure information, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the label, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 2, 2026. Owners may contact Tiffin customer service at 1-256-356-8661. Tiffin's number for this recall is WAY-107.

Chronology of events

  1. May 11, 2026

05/11/2026 Tiffin Motorhomes is in the process of combining all production to take place at our Red Bay campus. Motorhomes from our Winfield production facility begin arriving at Red Bay for PDI. 05/12/2026 PDI manager for class C motorhomes begins inspections and discovered that the OCCC label was incorrectly printed on the white label instead of the yellow label. An investigation began. IT was notified and confirmed that the printer settings for the scale at Winfield were incorrect and the OCCC label was programmed to print on the white label. At that time, a shipping hold was put on all Class C units arriving from Winfield until the label could be corrected. IT corrected the printer settings. 05/13/2026 Compliance contacted field service reps and provided a list of stock units that needed to be checked for labels to help determine scope, as well as checking the units arriving for service at the Bob Tiffin Service Center. IT confirmed there was no way to tell when the printer settings were changed. 05/15/2026 Comparing information to the scale weights report showed units weighed in November 2025 were correct, units weighed December 12, 2025 were incorrect. 05/20/2026 May Safety Committee meeting was held, committee unanimously voted to recall due to the FMVSS 120 Non-Compliance. 05/22/2026 Compliance received more information from Tiffin field service techs that OCCC labels printed 12/09/2025 were printed on yellow labels, so population was narrowed to units weighed between 12/10/2025 and May 8, 2026 that had already been invoiced and shipped from our Winfield campus.
