Defect
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2026 Escape and Lincoln Corsair vehicles. The integrated park module may fail to lock into the park position when the driver shifts into park. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
Risk / consequence
A loss of park function can allow the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
The Secondary On Board Diagnostic Module C (SOBDMC) software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed June 5, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in August 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C69. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on May 15, 2026. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V863.
Chronology of events
- Mar 31, 2026
On March 31, 2026, Ford’s Electrical Trans Axle Engineering team learned of three (3) Escape warranty return parts from vehicles that triggered the P07E4-00 Diagnostic Trouble Code potentially indicative of IPM binding. Upon further review, the team determined that these vehicles contained Generation 2 IPMs rather than the Generation 1 IPMs utilized in normal production Escape, and Corsair production. The transmissions built into these 3 vehicles were part of a production trial run at Ford’s Van Dyke Electric Powertrain Center to evaluate use of the Gen 2 IPM for potential future production implementation. Ford’s Critical Concern Review Gorup worked with Van Dyke Electric Powertrain Center to trace which vehicles received transmissions from this trial.
- May 5, 2026
On May 5, 2026, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved an amendment to FSA 25C69 to add those vehicles to the FSA population. Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.
