Defect

Nova Bus (US) Inc. (Nova Bus) is recalling certain 2022-2023 LFS transit buses. The telemetry control unit installed in parallel with the vehicle monitoring system may cause a data overload.

Risk / consequence

An overloaded control unit may shutdown, causing a loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Nova Bus will modify the connection configuration, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 29, 2026. Owners may contact Nova Bus customer service at 1-450-472-6410. Nova Bus' number for this recall is CR5882. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning June 29, 2026.

Chronology of events

  1. Mar 24, 2026

    March 24, 2026: Nova Bus received information of 3 buses shutting down in service and created an alert to be evaluated by the Product Safety review team.

  2. Mar 25, 2026

    March 25, 2026: Nova Bus Product Safety Office raises the alert to a Potential Safety Related Issue.

  3. Apr 9, 2026

    April 9, 2026: Investigation is completed and determines that the Nova Bus telemetry control unit combined with a customer-specific vehicle monitoring system installed in parallel is the cause of the issue. This configuration may create a data overload to the MC43 control unit.

  4. Apr 16, 2026

    April 16, 2026: Product Safety Evaluation Committee evaluates and recommends issue to be escalated to Product Safety Committee.

  5. Apr 23, 2026

    April 23, 2026: Product Safety Committee makes the determination of a safety related defect.

  6. Apr 30, 2026

    April 30, 2026: Nova Bus files 573 with NHTSA that a voluntary recall will be released to address the safety defect. There have been 0 warranty claims, 0 field reports, 0 accidents or 0 injuries reported with this issue.
