Defect

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2019-2023 Audi E-Tron Quattro, 2020-2023 Audi E-Tron Sportback, 2024 Q8 E-Tron, Q8 Sportback E-Tron, SQ8 E-Tron, and SQ8 Sportback E-Tron vehicles. The fastener that connects the brake pedal and the brake booster may have been improperly assembled during manufacturing, which can cause the brake pedal to detach from the brake booster.

Risk / consequence

Brake pedal detachment can cause a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and tighten the pushrod screw joint as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 28, 2026. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 46P7. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 24V621. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on April 17, 2026.

Chronology of events

  1. Aug 12, 2024

    August 12, 2024: The Audi Product Safety Committee decided safety recall 24V-621 (manufacturer recall: 46P6) based on certain parameters defined by the supplier and production deviations that occurred in 2019.

  2. March 2026

    January – March 2026: Audi received two field parts from outside the scope of recall 24V- 621(manufacturer recall: 46P6) for detailed analysis and conducted a renewed review of additional returned parts. This assessment identified three components exhibiting the same issue previously addressed under mentioned recall. As a result, the parameters defining the affected vehicle scope were investigated and re-evaluated.

  3. Apr 8, 2026

    April 08, 2026: The Audi Product Safety Committee decided a new safety recall for the new potentially affected vehicles. It was determined that all parts produced at the suspected screwdriving station at the supplier prior to the implementation of the final optimizations in May 2024, which were not already included in recall 24V-621 (manufacturer recall: 46P6), are now incorporated into the vehicle scope of this new recall. As of April 09, 2026, Audi is not aware of any crashes, fires, injuries or deaths associated with this defect.
