- NOVEMBER 2025
NOVEMBER 2025: HMC shared information related to snap-on anchor design testing performance. HMC and NASO conducted replication testing and user handling evaluations, investigating the possibility of the snap-on anchor being potentially damaged in the field or if removed or installed improperly. NASO’s findings were communicated to NHTSA.
- DECEMBER 2025
DECEMBER 2025: NASO visited HMMA to review seatbelt installation processes and quality control measures. VOQ vehicle inspections were completed and parts were recovered, confirming damaged anchor clips. NASO analysis determined field damage due to external occupant interaction was not likely, based on space constraints and fixed anchor positioning NASO continued to investigate other potential sources of anchor damage.
- JANUARY 2026
JANUARY 2026: NASO confirmed forceful removal of the snap-on anchor produced anchor damage consistent with VOQ allegations and provided updates to NHTSA regarding its findings. NASO conducted broader field inspections of snap-on anchors equipped in vehicles at a local auction with no issues noted. Additionally, HMC confirmed that the anchor clip design was shared amongst other models and completed its review of manufacturing process and records at HMC’s assembly plants. No issues were noted within the assembly or in-plant repair processes. NASO and HMC planned to conduct crash testing under various conditions in an effort to duplicate the reported condition. HMC informed NASO of recent crash testing results which showed no detachments under specific test scenarios. NASO provided an update of its investigation to ODI.
- MARCH 2026
FEBRUARY - MARCH 2026: Additional field inspections of auction vehicles were completed with no issues noted. NASO continued duplication testing of various design versions of the snap-on anchor clip.
