Defect

Micro Bird USA LLC (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2026 G5 transit buses. An installation error may prevent the wheelchair tie-downs from locking, leaving the wheelchair improperly secured.

Risk / consequence

An unsecured wheelchair can move during transit or a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and secure the anchor screw cap as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 30, 2026. Owners can contact Micro Bird's Customer Service at 819-477-2012. Micro Bird's number for this recall is 26-120-AVC.

Chronology of events

  1. Mar 2, 2026

On March 2, 2026 during a demonstration on the use of the wheelchair tie-downs with a new employee, an engineer couldn’t lock the tie-down in the anchor. A visual inspection revealed that the anchor screw cap wasn’t pushed completely down, preventing the apparatus from locking. After pushing it down manually, the system worked as intended. An internal review of the procedures and inspection of the vehicles on site revealed that in a small percentage of vehicles, the caps were not pushed down sufficiently. New tools and procedures were developed to ensure that the installation was consistent throughout, and extensive testing confirmed the successful corrections were implemented.
