Chronology of events
- July 2025
On 29 July 2025, following reports of partial or complete detachment of the panoramic roof side finisher, a Product Safety and Compliance Committee (PSCC) investigation was opened. A dedicated team was established to review the failure rate data and investigate the issue. Throughout August, the team reviewed the claim records to establish a connection between the vehicles in order to assess the remaining risk to the population. No common factor was able to be established at this time, and throughout September and October all access to relevant data was disabled due to a cyber incident thereby pausing the investigation. From November through to January 2026, manual analysis was carried out of vehicle build records spanning a 4-year production window, in order to establish a link between the reported failures. The progress of this analysis was regularly reported to the PSCC. All design and process change points related to the subject part in the same production window were also reviewed for relevance. On 26 January 2026, it was concluded that the link between the vehicles which had experienced detachment of the panoramic roof side finisher was related to quality-related rework carried out for a variety of reasons where the rework activity involved removal and re-fitment of the subject component. PSCC reviewed this conclusion and heard that the manual build and rework records analysis required additional time to conclude and produce a potential risk range of further affected vehicles. On 09 February 2026, the PSCC was informed that the completed records analysis showed that additional vehicles were identified as having had similar rework which could have resulted in the same defect being present. It was decided to take the matter to the PSCC Decision forum. On 12 February 2026, the PSCC Decision Forum determined that the issue represented an unreasonable risk to safety for those vehicles subjected to relevant rework in the assembly plant and instructed that a safety recall be launched to remedy the affected vehicles. JLR has received 68 claims and field reports in the US between 14 October 2022 and 20 December 2025. There have been no reported accidents, injuries or fires in the US as a result of this concern.
