Defect
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain Mopar engines with part numbers 68364632CB and 68412483AF. Debris inside the engine may cause engine failure, which can result in a loss of drive power and/or an engine compartment fire.
Risk / consequence
A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash, and a vehicle fire increases the risk of injury.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the engine as necessary, free of charge. Engines not already installed in vehicles will be inspected and if necessary, repurchased. Owner notification letters were mailed May 7, 2026. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 33D.

- Oct 30, 2025
On October 30, 2025, FCA US LLC ("FCA US") Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance ("TSRC") Organization determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, that a safety defect exists in certain Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEVs and Jeep Wrangler PHEVs with engines which may have been contaminated with sand from the manufacturing process (NHTSA Recall ID 25V766) (FCA Recall Number 78C)("78C").
- December of 2025
In December of 2025, FCA US TSRC was notified of an engine compartment fire in a 2024MY Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV, which was not included in 78C, but had an engine manufactured during the suspect engine manufacturing window. Between January 2026 and February 2026, FCA US TSRC investigated why the vehicle was not included in 78C and discovered a technical issue in the traceability systems used to determine the 78C recall scope and identified additional engines manufactured during the suspect window.

On February 3, 2026, FCA US amended 78C to include additional vehicles.

As of March 13, 2026, FCA US is aware of 0 customer assistance records, 0 warranty claims, 0 fires and 0 loss of propulsion field reports, and 0 other service records potentially relating to this issue for all markets. As of March 13, 2026, FCA US is aware of 0 injuries or accidents potentially related to this issue for all markets.
