Window Glass May Detach from Frame/FMVSS 217

Nova Bus (US) Inc. (Nova Bus) is recalling certain Ricon hidden frame windows sold through Prevost Parts and Prevost Service Center. Please refer to Nova Bus' attached document for specific part number information. Inadequate adhesion around the window frame may cause the glass to detach. As such, these windows fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."

Risk / consequence

The glass can fall out of the frame, increasing the risk of ejection and injury during a crash. Detached window glass can also become a road hazard for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Nova will inspect and replace the windows as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nova Bus customer service at 1-450-472-6410. Nova Bus' number for this recall is ER26501. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning June 8, 2026.

Chronology of events

1. Sep 11, 2025

   2025-09-11: A new adhesion issue is detected by Nova Bus Quality team prior to bus delivery. Additional inspection is performed on all flush windows prior to bus deliveries.

2. Oct 30, 2025

   2025-10-30: Nova Bus Safety Office is notified of the issue, and a safety investigation is launched.

3. Nov 14, 2025

   2025-11-14: Defective parts are sent to Ricon for failure analysis. Nova Bus Service team is informed of the potential issue and asked to validate that vehicles delivered are not impacted.

4. Dec 4, 2025

   2025-12-04: Ricon visits Nova Bus plant to analyze the issue.

5. Dec 9, 2025

   2025-12-09: Nova Bus Quality team visits Ricon manufacturing plant to support root cause analysis.

6. Mar 11, 2026

   2026-03-11: Nova Bus is informed of 9 defective windows found in service by a single client.

7. Mar 15, 2026

   2026-03-15: A field inspection finds eight additional windows with adhesion issues.

8. Mar 19, 2026

   2026-03-19: Product Safety Evaluation Committee evaluates and recommends issue to be escalated to Product Safety Committee.

9. Mar 24, 2026

   2026-03-24: Product Safety Committee determination of product defect.

10. Mar 31, 2026

    2026-03-31: Nova Bus files 573 with NHTSA and advise that a voluntary recall will be released to address the safety-related defect.

11. Apr 2, 2026

    2026-04-02: Following a survey of parts sold in aftermarket, Product Safety Committee determines that an equipment recall is required for parts sold in aftermarket.

12. Apr 9, 2026

    2026-04-09: Nova Bus files 573 with NHTSA and advises that a voluntary equipment recall will be performed address the safety-related defect. There have been 0 warranty claims, 0 accidents or 0 injuries reported with this issue
