Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2026 VNR (4) and 2024-2026 VNL (4) vehicles. The automatic high beams (AHB) may not switch to low beam headlights as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk / consequence

High beam headlights that do not switch to low beam as intended can reduce visibility for oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

As an interim action, Volvo Trucks will update the vehicle software through an over-the-air (OTA) update to disable the AHB feature, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed June 1, 2026. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2511. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning November 19, 2025.

   October 7, 2025: Adaptive driving beam testing performed on a truck built with the automatic high beam feature.

2. Oct 14, 2025

   October 14, 2025: Engineering notified that the automatic high beam feature was unable to identify certain motorcycles during some test scenarios.

3. Oct 23, 2025

   October 23, 2025: Safety Office opens a potential non-compliance investigation.

4. Nov 3, 2025

   November 3, 2025: Product Safety Evaluation Committee reviews investigation information and recommends escalation to the Product Safety Committee.

5. Nov 13, 2025

   November 13, 2025: Product Safety Committee determines that a product non-compliance exists and decides to initiate a recall. There have been no warranty claims, field reports, accidents or injuries reported related to this issue.
