Defect
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 vehicles. The right longitudinal frame member may not be reinforced properly, decreasing the structural integrity of the third-row seats.
Risk / consequence
Third-row seats with inadequate strength may fail to protect occupants, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and repair the frame, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 17, 2025. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is VS3RASCHW. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning October 31, 2025.
Chronology of events
- February 2024
In February 2024, during a standard quality check at the production plant, MBAG identified an isolated case in which a vehicle had been produced with an insufficient number of spot welds along the right longitudinal frame member of the Body in White. A remedial inspection process was implemented in the production plant. As of April 2024, further investigations took place to identify the source of the issue and whether any additional vehicles could be affected. The investigation revealed that an update had been implemented in the production plant which included updating the programming for the welding robot. That update may not have been implemented with regard to a specific and infrequently built vehicle code configuration. Having identified the source of the issue, MBAG began to review Sprinter (907 platform) production records to identify the potentially affected population. MBAG also undertook a detailed technical analysis to determine the potential impact of fewer weld points on the structural integrity of the frame. From November 2024 through March 2025, MBAG first conducted calculations of fatigue strength, and then further technical analyses to assess the potential impacts of the calculated deviation. The investigation subsequently determined that the omission of certain specified spot welds would not, over time, cause damage to the longitudinal frame member at the rear end of the vehicle.
