Defect
Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2026 Volvo XC90MHEV, XC60MHEV, V90CCMHEV, and V60CCMHEV vehicles. The torsion bar in the front seat belt retractors may have been damaged during production.
Risk / consequence
A damaged retractor may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
Dealers will replace both front seat belt retractors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 17, 2025. Owners may contact Volvo Car's customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10340. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 17, 2025.

Implementation date of Field Service Action 2025-09-11 *Critical Concern Management Team, ** vehicle reports On 2025-09-04, Volvo Cars received a notification about a potential issue from the supplier Autoliv, regarding the torsion bars in the seatbelt system. The defect was linked to possible damage occurring during sub-supplier production, caused by jamming of components in a ball feeder. The case was escalated to the Critical Concern Action Process (CCAP). On 2025-09-05, the issue was classified as potentially critical, prompting the Critical Concern Management Team (CCMT) to initiate a full technical investigation. The technical investigation including a risk assessment was performed along with a detailed review of serial numbers and parts tracking data was conducted to identify potentially affected components. This enabled the identification of concerned vehicles and containment of faulty parts within the relevant production batches. On 2025-09-09, the CCMT concluded that the defect represented an increased risk to motor vehicle safety, and the issue was officially classified as critical. Following this decision, preparations were initiated for a recall action to address the safety concern.
