Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2025 R1S and R1T vehicles. The headlight low beams may fail to illuminate when starting the vehicle in cold weather. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Risk / consequence
Headlight failure can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Rivian will replace the headlight control modules, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 22, 2025. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1612.
Chronology of events

On December 20, 2024, Rivian learned that the headlamps on the subject vehicles may not meet the requirements of FMVSS 108.
- Dec 21, 2024
On December 21, 2024, Rivian opened an investigation to determine if a noncompliance may exist.
- Feb 6, 2025
On February 6, 2025, Rivian determined that a potential noncompliance to FMVSS 108, Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. equipment cannot be ruled out. As of the date of this filing, Rivian is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue in any market.
