Fuel Pump May Become Damaged and Leak

Holley Performance Products (Holley) is recalling certain 140 GPH BLACK electric fuel pumps, part number 12-815-1. The fuel pumps may not be compatible with methanol fuel.

Risk / consequence

Use of methanol fuel can damage the pump, causing a fuel leak and increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Holley will provide owners with instructions against using methanol fuel and replace fuel pumps for owners who have or anticipate using ethanol fuel, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 13, 2025. Owners may contact Holley customer service at 1-800-638-0032.

Chronology of events

1. May 12, 2025

   5/12/25 – Following Holley Recall No. 25E036, which involved out-of-spec fuel pressure regulators supplied to Holley by a third-party supplier, Holley initiated a review of other parts sourced from this supplier for similar issues.

2. May 13, 2025

   5/13/25 – The subject fuel pumps were placed on shipment hold, and sample parts were pulled for testing. No issues were identified.

3. Jun 4, 2025

   6/4/25 – Holley’s warranty/returns team was instructed to place any future returns on “Hold for Quality Review.”

4. Jul 1, 2025

   7/1/25 – Component level samples were received from the vendor to evaluate compatibility with methanol.

5. Jul 8, 2025

   7/8/25 – Soak of components in methanol showed significant expansion, indicating potential lack of compatibility.

6. Jul 16, 2025

   7/16/25 – Durability tester build and one assembled unit tested with methanol. Unit began leaking through weep hole at 21 hours of exposure.

7. Jul 24, 2025

   7/24/25 – The first unit returned following the 6/4/25 instruction was captured. An inspection of that unit showed evidence of methanol usage and a leak through the weep hole.

8. Jul 29, 2025

   7/29/25 – Based upon the results of the investigation, Holley decided to initiate a safety recall to address this condition. To date, Holley is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fires related to this issue.
