Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2025 International HX and International LT vehicles equipped with Cummins X15 diesel engines. The fuel pump barrels may fracture and cause a fuel leak, resulting in an engine stall.

Risk / consequence

An engine stall increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Navistar will work with the equipment manufacturer, Cummins, to replace the fuel pump barrels, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 22, 2024. Owners may contact Navistar Customer Service at 331-332-1590 or Cummins Customer Service at 812-377-5000. Cummins' number for the recall is C7083.

Chronology of events

1. Sep 9, 2024

   9/9/2024: Cummins communicates to Navistar findings that certain X15 fuel pumps may experience a fuel leak.

2. Sep 11, 2024

   9/11/2024: Cummins communicates to Navistar that certain X15 fuel pumps barrels were manufactured with less than the required hardness that may lead to a fuel leak, which could cause a vehicle to stall. At this time Navistar does not have any reports of the issue occurring in its products. Cummins continues its investigation into the causes and effects of the issue.

3. Sep 16, 2024

   9/16/2024: Cummins communicates to Navistar that its Product Safety Defect Board decided to initiate a safety recall on X15 engines

4. Sep 17, 2024

   9/17/2024 thru 9/24/2024: Navistar initiates a delivery stop of Cummins X15 engines at the assembly plant, finding 568 X15 engines built with suspect fuel pumps, and establishing the clean point at the Escobedo plant.

5. Sep 23, 2024

   9/23/2024: Cummins provides a copy of its its Part 573 Defect Information Report to Navistar.

6. Sep 24, 2024

   9/24/2024: Navistar finalizes the suspect population.

7. Sep 25, 2024

   9/25/2024: Navistar acknowledges Cummins recall 24E-078 and approves for Cummins to administer the campaign, notify customers, supply remedy, and provide quarterly completion reports.
