Front Overhead Cabinet Detachment May Cause Crash

REV Recreation Group (REV) is recalling certain 2019-2025 Holiday Rambler Admiral, 2018 Holiday Rambler Admiral XE, Fleetwood Storm, 2023-2025 Holiday Rambler Eclipse, Fleetwood Flex, 2018-2025 Fleetwood Flair, 2020-2024 Fleetwood Fortis, 2020-2025 Holiday Rambler Invicta, 2018-2023 Fleetwood Pace Arrow, and 2018-2019 Holiday Rambler Vacationer XE motorhomes, equipped with the HappiJac drop down bed option. The front overhead cabinet fasteners can break, allowing the overhead cabinet to detach.

Risk / consequence

A cabinet that detaches while the vehicle is in motion can distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and install new hardware and fasteners as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 7, 2024. Owners may contact REV customer service at 1-800-509-3417. REV's number for this recall is 240809REV.

Chronology of events

1. Jun 18, 2024

   6/18/2024 REV RV received information regarding a 2024 Model Year Admiral motor home, serial number 655NR4440572 that the front overhead cabinet under the HappiJac drop down bed started to detach from the mounting surface. 6/19 The unit overhead was secured, and the unit was driven to REV RV in Decatur Indiana for evaluation. 6/20 The manufacturing plant was notified of the issue with the front overhead cabinet coming loose. The root cause of the condition was unknown. 6/24 Unit arrived for inspection. A ship hold was placed on similar units until testing was performed. Manufacturing Operations were shut down the weeks of June 24 & July 4th (holiday week). 6/26 REV RV service communicated with engineering to advise of the situation. Investigation began to review field data. 7/02 Manufacturing leaders inspected the unit and reviewed the prints. 7/08 Manufacturing and Engineering returned from shutdown. Units on stop ship were inspected. Claim data analyzed. 7/11 Stress testing was performed on an overhead cabinet from manufacturing. 7/12 Plant inspection and repairs were performed. 7/15 Customer unit repaired. 7/18 Data reviewed with the Operations, Engineering and Quality. 7/22 Summary forwarded to safety committee.. 7/25 Safety committee met to discuss engineering investigation results and sent recommendation to declare a voluntary safety recall to REV Senior Leadership Team for consideration and review. 08/09 DIR Approval to proceed with Part 573 Safety Recall Report.
