Component / system
Defect
Rosenbauer America (Rosenbauer) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Commander fire trucks equipped with certain independent front suspension assemblies. The lower control arm retention bolts can become brittle and break after being tightened.
Risk / consequence
A broken bolt head can become a projectile, increasing the risk of an injury.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were be mailed September 16, 2024. Owners may contact Rosenbauer customer service at 1-651-462-1000.

- Jul 15, 2024
7/15/24: Lisa Sampson with Rosenbauer contacts Reyco Granning after reviewing the weekly email from NHTSA with the latest recalls. It was noticed that other fire truck OEMs had filed recalls for independent front suspension assemblies that we buy from Reyco Granning.

7/18/24: An email was sent to Reyco Granning asking for an update.
- Jul 19, 2024
7/19/24: Reyco Granning is reviewing Rosenbauer POs for impacted units.
- Jul 23, 2024
7/23/24: An email was sent to Reyco Granning asking for an update and was told that their engineering department was generating the communication and it will be ready the next day.

7/25/24: An email was sent to Reyco Granning asking for an update.
- Jul 29, 2024
7/29/24: James at Reyco Granning said that we should have official letter by now and that the engineers are in meetings for the next 2 days but was hopeful they could still provide what we needed. It is unknown at this point if Rosenbauer has recalled units.

7/31/24: James at Reyco Granning has asked his colleagues for an update.
- Aug 1, 2024
8/1/24: Rosenbauer receives a notification letter in the mail even though it was addressed to someone who no longer works here. The letter contains 6 serial numbers.

8/5/24: Rosenbauer starts researching which trucks are impacted by the recalled assemblies.

8/9/24: Rosenbauer asks for more information to locate 3 assemblies and Reyco Granning responded same day.

8/12/24: Rosenbauer locates the impacted trucks and asks Reyco Granning to share the remedy for the 4 trucks still at Rosenbauer's MN location. James copies in other colleagues at Reyco Granning to ansswer my questions on the remedy plans.

8/13/24: Rosenbauer puts a ship-hold on the 4 trucks in their production.
