Incorrect Maximum Weight on Labels/ FMVSS 213

Britax Child Safety, Inc. (Britax) is recalling certain One4Life Slim ClickTight All-in-One car seats with model numbers E1D197A, E1D197B, E1D197F, and E1D197G. The labels and user guide incorrectly state the maximum rear-facing lower anchor weight. As such, these child seats fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 213, "Child Restraint Systems."

Risk / consequence

An incorrect label and user guide may result in an improperly installed child seat, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy

Britax will mail owners new labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning December 18, 2024. Owners may contact Britax customer service at 888-427-4829.

Chronology of events

1. Nov 13, 2024

   On November 13, 2024, Britax conducted a routine audit of the One4Life Slim car seat and it was discovered that the related label and user guide stated a 40lb maximum weight capacity for rear-facing installation with lower anchors. The product was immediately placed into quarantine and a stop shipment was issued on any outbound orders while investigation into this maximum weight capacity was evaluated. It was later determined that this 40lb weight capacity was incorrect in accordance with under the FMVSS 213 Table for S5.5.2(l)(3)(i)(C) and instead needs to be stated as 35lbs.
