Defect

Great Dane Trailers, (Great Dane) is recalling certain 2023 Champion trailers. The VINs on the certification label may be incorrect. As such, these trailers fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

Risk / consequence

An owner that references an incorrect VIN label may not recognize their trailer is involved in a safety recall, and may not have the recall remedy performed, which could increase the risk of injury, fire, or a crash.

Remedy

Great Dane has mailed new certification decals, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 05, 2024. Owners may contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493.

    02/10/2022 Trailer order was taken

    06/02/2022 The order was revised to change the overall length from 53' to 48'

  3. Aug 19, 2022

    08/19/2022 First trailer completed

  4. Dec 5, 2023

    12/05/2023 Data audit found that the VINs were never reconfigured after the length change

    12/05/2023 Investigation begun.

  6. Dec 5, 2023

    12/05/2023 Investigation discovered that manufacturing shipped replacement certification decals after delivering completed trailers.

  7. Dec 5, 2023

    12/05/2023 Salesman confirmed that the customer received the updated certification decals.

  8. Dec 11, 2023

    12/11/2023 It was determined that even though this issue has already been corrected in the field that this constitutes a noncompliance with FMVSS 567
