Loose Axle Spindle Nut May Cause Wheel Detachment

Great Dane Trailers (Great Dane) is recalling certain 2024 Champion trailers. The axle spindle nut may have been improperly tightened.

Risk / consequence

A loose axle spindle nut can allow the wheel to detach from the trailer, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Great Dane will inspect and tighten the axle spindle nut and/or rebuild the hub as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 08, 2024. Owners may contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493.

Chronology of events

1. Nov 30, 2023

   11/30/2023 Customer reported a wheel separation occurred inside one of their yards. Great Dane reported the issue to the supplier who offered to inspect the unit.

2. Dec 4, 2023

   12/4/2023 Supplier inspected the affected unit.

3. Dec 5, 2023

   12/5/2023 Supplier shared their findings, and reported the root cause as a loose spindle nut installed by Great Dane. Determined that this issue constituted a safety issue.

4. Dec 5, 2023

   12/5/2023-12/8/2023 Great Dane Warranty worked with Great Dane Manufacturing, and Great Dane Quality to determine suspect population, inspection/repair procedures, and review quality documentation from the manufacturing facility
