Defect

Highland Ridge RV (Highland Ridge) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Mesa Ridge, Mesa Ridge XLT, Mesa Ridge S-Lite, Open Range, Open Range Roamer, and Open Range Lite fifth wheel and travel trailers. The quick disconnect fittings in the LP gas system may be cracked, causing a gas leak.

Risk / consequence

A gas leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the quick disconnect fittings, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 23, 2022. Owners may contact Highland Ridge customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Highland Ridge's number for this recall is 9904577.

Chronology of events

  1. Apr 6, 2022

    April 6, 2022 an internal communication was received informing Jayco that an RV manufacturer was investigating cracked quick disconnects supplied by Flex-Tech. An internal investigation was conducted.

  2. Apr 19, 2022

    April 19, 2022 Flex-Tech provided shipment information to Jayco and indicated that they sent suspect quick disconnects to Jayco between July 1, 2021 and April 19, 2022. Jayco monitors its complaints and warranty claims and noticed two units built in this time frame had a warranty claim for a cracked quick disconnect.

  3. Apr 25, 2022

    April 25, 2022 the Warranty Incident Review Committee (WIRC) discussed this incident and elevated to the Corrective and Preventive Action Committee (CPAC).

  4. May 4, 2022

    May 4, 2022 CPAC met to discuss this incident and elevated this incident to the Safety Steering Committee (SSC).

  5. Apr 28, 2022

    On April 28, 2022 SSC met and voted that a safety recall was appropriate for this incident.
