Mar 10, 2025

NHTSA Recall Campaign Number: 25V100
Volkwagen Recall Number: 10X5

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. has issued a safety recall affecting approximately 177,493 vehicles, including the 2024-2025 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models. The recall is due to an improperly installed engine cover that may come loose and come into contact with hot surfaces in the engine compartment, potentially leading to a fire. This issue was identified after several thermal cases were reported, with the first case noted on October 3, 2023, and subsequent cases in July-August 2024 that were linked to improperly installed engine covers after vehicle maintenance.

Affected Vehicles:

  • 2024-2025 Volkswagen Atlas: 115,310 vehicles
  • 2024-2025 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport: 62,183 vehicles

Vehicle owners should await notification from Volkswagen, which is expected by April 18, 2025. In the meantime, if you notice a burning smell from the engine compartment or if the engine cover appears to be out of place, contact a Volkswagen dealership immediately. The remedy involves removing the affected engine cover, and Volkswagen will offer a reimbursement plan for this recall.

The recall decision was finalized after extensive analysis and discussions at Volkswagen's Product Safety Committee, culminating in a decision on February 10, 2025, to mitigate the potential safety risk associated with the engine cover issue.

Next Steps:

  • Dealer Notification: Dealers will be notified by February 19, 2025.
  • Owner Notification: Owners will be notified by April 18, 2025.
  • Remedy: The engine cover will be removed from affected vehicles.

Stay informed and follow the instructions provided by Volkswagen to ensure your vehicle's safety.
