Closed Ford Safety Investigation - EA23002

Nov 4, 2024

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) closed an investigation into engine failures affecting over 411,000 Ford vehicles.

The investigation, which began in 2022, focused on 2021-2022 Ford and Lincoln models equipped with 2.7L or 3.0L EcoBoost engines. The issue was traced to defective intake valves that could fracture and cause catastrophic engine damage.

Ford identified a production spike period from May to October 2021 as the source of the problem. In response, Ford issued a recall (24V635) for 90,736 affected vehicles and launched an extended warranty program. The NHTSA concluded that most defective valves have likely already failed, with the majority of failures occurring before 20,000 miles.
